I have a 1992 Honda Accord EX. This morning it was difficult to start. It took 3 or 4 tries until it finally started, it ran rough for the first couple of seconds, and finally smoothed out. The check engine light was on the whole way to work. When I parked the car at work, I noticed it was still idling fast, at around 1200 or 1300 RPM. I turned the car off, and turned it right back on again. This time the check engine light was off and it was idling normally. I just scanned for codes using the check engine light method and came up with code 56. I tried searching online and I can’t find out what code 56 means anywhere. What could be wrong?

I posted this question on another forum too and everyone is saying I must not be checking the code correctly because there’s no such thing as code 56. So, I videotaped the check engine light flashing. See for yourself: http://s203.photobucket.com/user/exbass94/media/video-2013-09-17-09-51-35.mp4.html

Looking at the video again, I think it might actually be 2 codes: Code 41 and code 6.

Code 41 is o2 sensor heater which would not cause these symptoms. I believe this code is set because I was working on the exhaust this weekend, and I started the car for a few seconds with the o2 sensor disconnected. I now have a brand new o2 sensor installed, so this code should not return once I reset the computer.

Which just leaves code 6: Coolant temperature. Would a bad coolant temperature sensor cause these symptoms?

If the coolant sensor is not reading correctly it will
affect the idle how the car runs.

Yeah that’s a 41 and 6. Odd how they aren’t in numerical order. Perhaps they are stored in order as they are set.
