o2 Sensor

is it not true that on a obd 1 vehicle, the one and only one oxygen sensor controls the fuel mixtures? When my catalytic converter was removed, the exhaust shop welded in a spark plug defouler, thinking that it was going to keep the check engine light out. But all it is doing is throwing off the readings to the computer causing it to run bad and get horrible gas mileage. im assuming they thought it had 2 o2 sensors and that the defouler was going to trick the ecu to think that a cat was there?

Since it would be illegal to remove the catalytic converter from a road vehicle (both the shop and the owner would be subject to criminal penalties), I can only assume your intent is to race the car. If that’s the case, why are you concerned about the CEL?

Actually the trick is to install a anti foul adapter to the downstream O2 sensor in order to get the sensor further away from the exhaust.
Meaning, if you have a failing cat, this trick would give a skewed reading back to the ECU and trick it into thinking the cat was working better than it actually is.
Thus saving you the cost of replacing the cat.

what im saying is they did do that and now the truck runs bad but they did it on the upstream sensor. im assuming its running bad now because of that. I probed the o2 sensor and it isn’t fluctuating at all from 0.1-.09 V its staying at .5.

The anti fouler can easily be removed if that is the case.
Though with no cat, you are going to have issue getting a emission inspection.

So aparently that wasn’t the problem. I tested the new o2 sensor and it gets a signal to the pcm but the pcm doesn’t seem to make changes. Bad pcm?

It’s slowely been doing this over time and now it always does

                    Possibly.
You would need to see exactly what and how the system operates in order to know for certain that the ECU is the fault.
You state the signal gets to the ECU but nothing comes out.
Are the outputs DOA or perhaps a wiring issue.?
