NV4500HD transmission rebuild

I’m going to post a link to the facebook post I made about this, it has detailed pictures, detailed explanations, and several people on my friends list already posted suggestions as well. I don’t really feel like retyping all that here.

In a nutshell, I’m concerned that 2nd gear has too much side to side play on the mainshaft, and I’m looking either for some reassurance that it’s safe to run this way, or suggestions on how to take up some of the slack.

That is a sweet tranmission…expensive though. In my opinon if there is too much play you should pull it apart and fix the issue. You don’t want to damage the case or worse..the tranny to grenade.

My concern is more that I don’t actually know what qualifies as too much play. There is no spec in the manual, and of the two techs that I spoke to directly, one said it was too much, and one said just build it and run it.

Now, I would play it safe and keep it tight. I would listen to the mechanic who says there is too much play, cause I guarantee you if you showed it to me, as a mechanic I’d tell you the same thing from the sound of it.
