So I’m interested in this topic and have been reading around. A few things I see against ethanol blends are that it burns less efficiently and it burns hotter. I wanna try non ethanol and see how my car likes it but I can only find non ethanol premium.
Firstly, could I put premium in my car? Could I wait until the gas is almost empty and put it in or is it not smart to have any mixed in at all?

And what do you guys think about non ethanol?

I heard its not good for small engines like lawn mowers, tractors, etc. I wouldn’t wait until the tank is empty because you could get extra trash in your filter and that may reduce performance.

Done that before but apparently honda fuel systems are really good and I need not worry about that. Any one have experience with non ethanol?

I tried non ethanol gas on my riding lawn mower and its running a whole lot better. Sounds better to and no back fire on shut down. I let the tank run completely dry before filling up with non ethanol. Now I will try it on my 99 civic and see how that does.

So i tried it on my car. Did some tests- two tanks non ethanol premium (cuz i cant find non ethanol regular around here). I saw my car did have a better throttle response but not much change in MPGs. Then again my cars having other issue. So after a while it felt like it wasn’t worth the extra money. I put regular gasohol back in my car and I got a CEL with a few codes 50 miles later. The CEL I was able to avoid for a while after putting non ethanol in my car. Now the non ethanol is back in and I drove it on a 100 mile trip. No CEL yet. The car drives smoother and accelerates pretty well for the issues I gotta fix. So far Im all in favor of non ethanol. Not sure the raise in octane made much of a difference though.

I spoke with a friend of mine who says that all he uses is non ethanol gasoline in his cars and lawn equipment. He says he gets better performance and gas mileage. We have 87 octane non-ethanol gasoline here and I will use that and post the results of my findings. So far the lawn mower is doing great.

Octane is just the resistance to the fuel being burned. The higher the octane rating, the less likely it is to burn. It’s mainly used in cars with forced air induction as in a turbo or super charger. Due to the fact your raising the compression in the engine to what it was originally stock. Higher compression means more heat and with regular gas, it could cause a per-mature fire in the engine…That would be bad. As for the ethanol part, I am curious as to how this will go. I personally never thought anything of it till I read this forum thread.

I think my car has a knocking or timing issue or something. But it definitely runs smoother with non ethanol. Theres a lot of info. Many people claim better MPGs and their car feels a bit ‘peppier’.

That video was informative. So in higher compression engines, you want a higher octane fuel (that doesn’t burn as well) so that it won’t combust before it hits the spark plug. If I understand correctly.

My aunt had a plymouth horizon years ago that would ping and knock on shut down. Also if you step on the gas to accelerate, it makes this weird noise. She switched to 93 octane and the problems went away. What would be the reason for this?
