My car 1999 Malibu 3.1 developed lifter tick. It usually happens when the engine is cold and then goes away.
I recently had the oil changed and was recommended to use 10W30 oil instead of 5W30 because of the mileage on the car.
(135000). Lifter noise has gotten louder ie worse. I put a bottle of CD2 in yesterday and this morning I could not get the lifter tick to stop after the engine warmed up. I put a small amount of STP in and the noise subsided. It’s been cold the last few nights and I have been told to use a heavier weight oil, but that makes no sense to me. Should I go back to the 5W30 oil? Or any suggestions would be helpful. Normally lifter noise stops after engine reaches temp. thank you.

Stick with the 5w 30.The 3100s and 3400s do have problems with the camshaft breaking in half.If this is found, engine replacement is the only option. The block is scrap when this happens.
