To be honest if it’s just specific to one gear the most likely cause is an internal failure inside the transmission, either a bearing or some other hard part has failed causing the noise. In my experience with a situation like this there is no ‘quick fix’ and the only thing to do is either replace or repair the transmission that is if it can be repaired. Good luck and keep us posted.

Noise seemed to have faded out over time. Don’t know what caused it but isn’t troublesome…for now.

^Could it be a cold weather symptom from ATF thickness at cold start temps?

What is the service history for the transmission? If a cleaner was added, it’s usually supposed to be drained after a certain time period to remove the crud mainly.

If that is an app that is using Dex III or similar, if the symptom returns even after ATF service is done/verified etc…this is one app I’d recommend a product like Lubegard in the red bottle. It is an ester based product that will actually do something and doesnt have harmful solvents, etc. Just a thought, it is a popular product even among some manufacturers and some rebuilders. Just a thought again not trying to push a product, to be clear.

I am not a fan of any ‘mechanic in a bottle’. If the trans is failing, it’s failing. Additives aren’t the answer, in my opinion.

I agree with Beefy. I am not a fan of ‘mechanic in a can’ products as they never seem to work.
