Since my 94 Mustang GT (5.0) was running good this am, decided it was time for a short road trip this nice afternoon. Got in, hit the starter, everything worked except did not start – starter spinning engine but did not fire. Checked coil connection, battery connection, no fire. Tried again, could slightly smell gas so figured, ok we’re getting gas but no spark. Let is sit for 10 minutes, still no start. Charged battery, no start. Disconnected negative cable at battery, waited 10 minutes, charged battery while waiting, reconnected battery, fired right up. I figure I let something reset. My neighbor (who is a pro mechanic) said check voltage when starting to see if turning the engine over is pulling voltage way down. He also thought that act of moving battery cable (negative) could indicate bad ground. As he put it, let’s try the simple stuff first. He’s going to do that with me next Sunday. We are also going to try to replace the TPS then since I have the new one (and getting to the screws to get it off is beyond me). Just reminder: I’m replacing TPS to see if that helps with lack of power under load. Just wondering if in a 94 with ODB1 and simple computer, if computer was getting some signal to not let the car start. Just wondering what others that read these forum posts think. Well, I wanted a project car, and I surely got one 🙂
