no start hyundai sonata

I recently had to go out and start my 2003 Hyundai sonata after sitting for the winter with a bad battery. Put a new battery in and the car started up and ran great the first try. Then tried to shift into reverse and could not get the car to come out of park. After a few minutes trying different things I shut the car off out of frustration. Went out the next day to start car and try again and nothing happened no crank no start the battery is good still reading close to 13v on the multimeter and all the lights and the head lights are nice and bright. After doing some reasearch I think it could be the neutral safty position switch. The car still reads that it is in park and the shifter is stuck there(can’t be moved with ignition on). Asking for second oppinion before I buy the parts.

Corrosion of the battery cables, or terminals perhaps? Have you tried the shift lock override?

If your sure your battery connections are clean and tight I would be looking for a blown fuse for the shift interlock first of all.

yes they do

all the connections are clean battery is new and all fuses have been checked and came up fine.

I would be leaning towards the neutral safety switch more than anything, I have seen that cause both no starts, and not allowing a car to shift from park. Keep in mind the car wont start in any gear but park or neutral so if the range sensor/neutral safety switch has failed it could definitely cause a no start. I have had it happen myself.

NO problem pretty inexpensive part, but I would definitely look into the wiring first.

thanks have all ready looked at that and was how I came to the conclusion that it was the safety switch

now where do you think that this would be located under the shift linkage

It should be right where the shift cable goes to the transmission. It could be connected directly to the cable or on some sort of linkage, It should be externally mounted though, I dont believe you will be encountering any transmission fluid when replacing it.
