      I’ve got a 2000 Pontiac Bonneville. Just replace intake manifold gaskets and exhaust crossover gasket. My father in law jumped in it took it down the road and ignition module went out. Got new one and installed started up and ran for about 2 miles and died again. Getting fuel pressure at regulator and spark but can not get to fire off. Was told that fuel pressure regulator could be bad and to use a hand held vacuum pump and pull pressure that way and see if its not getting enough vacuum from throttle body. But can not find spec for how much vacuum to pull. Can some one help me out with this.

        After a start attempt, pull a few plugs and see what they look like. If they have fuel on them, you can start looking at the ignition system. If no fuel, check the actual pressure at the regulator. If you disconnect the vacuum hose from the regulator, you would be getting full pressure for testing. You would then need to check the specs for your car to see what the idle PSI and WOT PSI (no vacuum) should be.

          Thanks, Plugs are getting wet. I checked and getting spark out of the coils all the way through the plugs. But car still won’t fire off. Not sure where to go from here. I forgot to mention while doing the intake I also had to replace the crankshaft sensor. But it did run until the ignition module went out.

            Are you getting a check engine light? Codes? Are all the connectors plugged back in from your previous maintenance? Sounds like something to do with the crankshaft sensor (does it have proper gap?) since you do have spark. Possible spark is not being applied at the right time.

              best I can tell its at the right gap. I replaced the cam sensor this morning because of no voltage coming out. It fired off and ran for a few minutes and the check engine light began flashing. I scanned and got a random misfire code. Won’t fire back up now.

                Update I replaced the crank sensor again. Getting all the basic parts for the engine to run. I”m getting fuel, spark and air but still won’t fire off, Any suggestions?

                  how did it run prior to the original intake manifold repair?

                  And which engine?

                    It was running okay. The reason for the intake gasket change was due to the little plastic elbow from the coolant through the belt tensioner had broken and was down in it. It has the 3.8 liter non supercharged.

                      you might want to fully recheck the injector orings for leaks and make sure the gaskets did not slip.

                      Did you make sure the ground wires that go to the bracket the ignition module is bolted to are attached?

                        Okay checked the ground and it is attached. I checked the spark and there was nothing so I replaced the ignition module and got spark. I can smell gas and I have fuel pressure. But still can’t get it going.

                          ok so you have spark and fuel, so either it is a timing issue or a mixture issue.

                          Check your brake booster hose where it snaps into the intake. make sure the oring is good and same with the housing the MAP/PCV snaps into

                            Alright down to the brass tax. I pulled the timing cover off found the tensioner busted. So found the problem. Now its time to debate is to try to replace timing set or just time for new engine. Car has 203000 miles on it. Thanks for the help.
