I’m surprised to not find any sort of search feature in the forums. I am not talking about the generic search box for OBD-II codes or whatever else you may ask, but I’m talking about the ability to search across the entire forum, or a specific subforum, which is pretty standard among the majority of forums I have seen.

You use the search on the main page for that 😉

Like I said, i already know about that generic search, but I don’t find it useful. Just curious, is there any reason that standard VBB was not used for the forum?

this is a great idea…saves having to post something where the issue has already been addressed…

The Search on the top of the page IS the main search for the WHOLE site not just the forums. Having a search that only works for the forums is a very limited idea and this site is built way beyond a typical forum that you find on the net that is a stand alone forum. If you want to know about a topic, simply use the search there and you are good to go. ANYTHING on this site will be found there.

PHPBB and VBB were not going to be options in this setup. Just because everyone uses VBB or pays out the noise for it doesn’t mean its the best option.

The ability to search globally & specifically is more flexible IMO. There are times when each has a place…

I have a way to limit searches based on what part of the site you want to search, it will need Eric’s approval before i can put it on.

ok, I have added search options for the forum and site and menu options. the forum searches just the forum, website content searches the content on the website sans the forum and the menu well searches for menu items. All will search the entire database of the site including the forum. Enjoy! Let me know how it works for you. banana:

I didn’t see it – is it published to the site yet?

Related suggestion: make the main search box more noticable.

Yes, one would think that the red text right in the middle of the screen is obvious! But I found my self scanning across the top menu items and then down the sides looking for search. The text box for search doesn’t stand out from the background,so I find the text above it is automatically filed away as “ad or some sort of chrome” when scanning across the page.

ill look at it at some point but i believe the search box is plainly seen and within the fold of the site as one of the most noticeable elements to the site. I have had no issues with people finding the search box as of yet till you posted something about it.

That’s a good feature to have. Thanks.
