Hi: I have a 1999 Silverado 5.3 LS, the dash and climate lights won’t come, I have changed the light switch, the sensor on the dash, all fuses and relays are new, now I did have an after market radio and alarm installed in 2016 due to the ineffective factory installed alarm which caused intermittent no start issues, I have zero shorts that I can find this far, the cluster had a complete rebuild in 2017, I can put power directly to the cluster and it’s works just fine, what could be causing this issue?

You’ll need a wiring diagram for your specific vehicle to trace out the wiring.
You do not say when the issue first began..
But my first thought would be to remove the after market radio and any adapter harness used and see if that cures the issue.

Ok thank your for replying, now this issue started just over a month ago well after the after market radio and an alarm was installed, I have removed the after market radio several times checked the wiring everything checks out, and I still don’t have any dash or hvac lights, could it be the ignition switch since this is the only part that has not been replaced since I purchased this truck in 2000? now be advised I’m not very good at reading wiring diagram at all.

It is possible, but I would suspect you would have more issues than just instrumentation lighting failure.
Such as the PRNDL and / or odometer not lighting or the warning chimes.
It is also possible that the cluster may have a defective connection or cracked solder joint.
Without a wiring diagram I can not say for certain if the the dash and climate lights are wired together, thought they might be.

Ok I see I forgot to mention that the PRNDL works just fine, as for the cluster I just had it completely redone, the warning chimes work as well, yes the dash and climate lights are wired together I found this out from my local leader shop tech, no I want take it to them they want an arm and a leg to do this work, I will try installing a new lock if that don’t work I will take the truck back to the shop who installed my radio and alarm, maybe they can figure it out? Thanks for you help and if I don’t forget I will update you on this issue.

Hi, I have a similar issue. But I have a 2002 Subaru Legacy. It came with aftermarket radio system. I don’t know what the previous own has done. At the beginning my stick shift light out, I replaced it. Now it’s been 3 some years, the dashboard light are out and the stick shift light are out too.
I replaced the dashboard lights, but no luck. I suspect it’s the wiring. Can you or the technician give me some information?
