Defrost is the default setting for most systems when there’s a problem.

I have opened the covers and looked under the dash – this is a vacuum-operated system – but all vacuum solenoids appear to be working when I push the A/C, VNT or HTR buttons but no air comes from the front vents on A/C or VNT mode. Fan works ok._x000D_

have you checks the actuators that switch vent outlets (from windshield blowing to front blowing to floor blowing)?

Normally there’s an accumulator that stores vacuum to keep a constant source for the system.
