      Hi guys my mates nissan Xrail with a QR25 engine the oil burning is beyond a joke now after 300kms the oil goes from full to add we done a change out on oil and went 20w-60 to slow it down while we suggest to rebuild or replace the engine

      a second hand engine is 2,800 Australian dollars for a rebuild kit is $300 off the net what i want to no is how long would a rebuild engine last and if anyone has done a qr 25 before and could give tips the owner dose many kms a year on the vehicle.

          ok the challenge is for me to find a good engine low kms not burning oil ass they all do and not costing more than the car lol 3,000 for engine car is worth 4,200 lol on trade in 16,000 for another car

            You can’t buy a rebuild kit until the engine is disasembled and you know what you have as far as cylinder bores, crankshaft journal wear, cam surface wear, cylinder head valve guide wear, and so on.
            I would doubt that a kit would include oversize pistons and so on.

            With the high mileage, odds are the cylinders are egged and tapered, crank journals are worn out of spec, etc, etc. Throwing rings and bearings into something like this usually does not work out well.
            A proper rebuild means cylnder boring, block vatting, new block plugs, crankshaft ground, etc.

            The cost of doing this right will likely end up costing far more than a used engine. However, a used engine can be a flip of the coin.

                the cylinder head was done 10,000kms ago when it had a gasket the mechanic has done something for it to burn oil i think clean the carbon and its done the rings so yea it might need a bore and bigger pistons which will cost a few hundred more on top of what i have guessed

                  update the bloke who owns this nissan has taken it in and getting a total engine rebuild cause the rings and bore were worn
