Nissan Almera 2005 N16 QG15 Engine CEL

When I am driving and when I switch the headlights on (Low beam) The ABS and Engine light
will come on and the engine loses power for a few seconds, also my dashboard clock resets to zero.
This happens intermittently, already I know this is going to be difficult
This can also happen when I switch to high beam (intermittently )
I scan for codes , but none are stored in any modules
I am thinking bad grounds or a problem with a supply voltage to the ecu
The schematic I have does not match up to my car, an uphill struggle without the correct
schematic
My Nissan has electronic Throttle control and variable valve timing
A link to a schematic would be helpful for the ecu and headlights
or did anyone ever come across this

This may sound dumb but check your battery. I had a problem that when I started my car it really struggled to start and when it did everything was reset. Clock/radio. I had a weak battery and it didnt show up till it turned cold. If you are putting the electrical system under load by turning on the lights it may take a second or two before the voltage regulator for the alternator can “catch up” therefore the lost power and the clock reset. This would also explain the intermitten aspect of it.
Turning on the lights after the alternator has had a chance to put more charge to the battery may not result in the power/reset issue. The battery covers the demand until the alternator catches up with the load.

Well I agree with umbergbr. There may be trouble in car’s battery. First check your car battery then other starter system. If it’s your out of understanding my suggestion is to take this issue to a car mechanic. As this kind problem was happened with my brothers car and when he show his car to the mechanic of Tiremania a local Auto Repair Shop he found that trouble was with the battery.

I would not call your comment “dumb”
I have being thinking on these line for a few days,
It has to be something common to all these modules, ecu, abs, smart entry, and also the antitheft light also came on,
Battery, alternator, Supplies, Grounds, are all on the list of possible causes.
Battery is about 3 years old, near the end of its life,
I am going to setup my scan tool to monitor my battery voltage on my next long drive.
Maybe there will be enough voltage to keep the scan tool working when the fault appears.
Battery voltage is at 12.55V when cold, and whilst turning the engine over its 10.5V.
With engine running at idle, System voltage is around 14V, with all loads on.
Whilst driving with all loads switched on, system voltage did not drop below 13.92V
and did not go above 14.08V

I went on a long drive to Dublin on Sat,
with my scan tool connected monitoring the battery data pid
The fault appeared about 25 minutes into my journey,
when the fault appeared it also knocked out my scan tool,
I had to repower it up, proving it must be a voltage or ground problem as the scan tool is
power by pin 16 of the DLC
However the fault never came back, even on my journey home
This morning I check all my powers and grounds to the DLC but all is ok
I will have to wait till the fault reappears. (they always do)
