      There is no timing on the main pulley on the crank shaft. What is the best way to achieve the settings please

        What engine size and what does this cross to in US?

          It is a v6 engine and it is a 3 litre engine or 2960cc

            On some of those, not sure which variant is in yours, likely the CA20S, there can be some dots milled into the sprockets that line up with marks or dots in the castings.

              Mine is a VG30. There is no markings on any of the 3 pullies or the fly wheel which is bolted onto the crank

                They may be hard to see, but they are there. You may be able to feel them with a fingernail before you actually see them. The attached image is for a VG30.

                  Thank you the photo is identical to my engine. I will strip it tomorrow and search for the markings. It isn’t far out but just can’t get the timing spot on and gets hot quite quick. Do you know when it should spark ie 5 degrees before tdc.

                      Thank you for that, last question how will I get that without markings on fly wheel, I do have an idea , but yours most probably simpler then mine

                        The timing pointer is part of the lower belt cover. It points to marks (notches) on the crankshaft pulley.

                        If your timing pointer is missing, you should replace the lower belt cover.

                        Then, set the timing accordingly:

                            A dowel or screwdriver in the #1 spark plug hole can allow you to find tdc or top dead center, and mark the main crank pulley with paint.

                              Hi I’me back, I have a pointer but nothing on the fly wheel or pullies. Today I stripped the front of the vehicle and found the timing and it was out by 1 tooth of the timing belt. I put that right and it run a treat. So a big thank you for your help to rectify my problem. I am unable to do the timing as mentioned as there is no degree marks to work from. Have you a suggestion to how I can make sure the timing is correct , sorry to trouble you but you have been a great asset. THANK YOU

                                Once you use a screwdriver in the #1 spark plug hole to find top dead center, or the highest point of piston travel, You can use a paint marker to mark your main crank pulley with top dead center and make a second mark at 15 degrees behind tdc. Multiply the diameter of the pulley by .13 to get the distance behind tdc. 10″ pulley the 15* mark is 1 5/16″ to the right of tdc. 250 mm diameter is 33 mm to the right of tdc.
