I have recently purchased a 79′ Chevy Malibu Wagon with a 305 small block chevy engine. I have always been a huge fan but only recently had the means to buy one. She runs pretty well but a few small problems i would love some advice on. When i start her cold she doesnt seem to want to stay on and idling, she putters out unless i hold the gas down and even will die when in drive until the engine is warmed up. I have rebuilt the carburetor and am 99 percent sure it is tuned correctly. Also not really a problem but it feels like i am not getting the most power out of the engine when in drives. when i have the car in park and or neutral i can floor the gas pedal and the engine will scream, but when i have it in drive on the road and floor it, it just seems like it very slowly opens up. im not concerned with being extremely fast but it is concerning that im not able to even get what i should be getting out of the engine. It has a comp cam and a th350 trans so on the 305 should at least be a little mean.
