Car: 2006 VW Jetta GLI MKV 2.0T FSI

I went to start my car on Sunday. No crank/no start. All I heard was a single click coming from under the hood. I tried to jumpstart the car. No luck. I tried knocking on the starter while attempting to start the car, no luck.

The car was then towed to the local dealership. After 7 hours of diagnostics, they said it was the instrument cluster. Well, they replaced the cluster. I was expecting to get a call on Wednesday to pick up the car. No luck. Instead, I got a call saying that I needed a new starter. I said no go; that I’d do it myself. They assured me that all I’d have to do is install the new starter and the car would be up and running.

I get the starter today. Install it. No luck. Same problem with one distinction. When you tried to start the car before, all you would hear is that single click. Now, I hear the single click and some weird noise. Check it out:

What do you think the issue is? After installing the starter, was I supposed to do something else besides re-installing the battery? Btw, the battery is fine. Gave it a jump. Still no luck.

        No expert on VW…
But is there a fuseable link or relay that you can check

There are links/relays that run up the front side of the fuse box under the hood. I have no idea which one to check.

Look on or inside the fuse box cover ..it should be labeled
You’ll need to get a wiring diagram for your specific vehicle to check the rest.
