Hey guys, I’ve been helping a friend for a little while on his jeep.

We replaced the old heater core since it was leaking, with a new spectra aluminum one.

However, we refilled the system, and the heat coming out wasn’t warm, but far from hot. 115 F to be exact.

So I tried bleeding the radiator by letting it run, and having the radiator cap off, but keeping the radiator topped off.

      Still not getting very hot.

Thermostat was replaced since the cover was leaking.. and it was replaced with a 195 degree one.

The upper and lower radiator hose is hot, just .. for some reason not the heater coming from the heater.

Maybe an air pocket that is stuck? Like I said I tried burping it, and both the hoses to the heater core are hot.

Maybe try putting the front of the Jeep on an incline to get any air out of the system?

My first thought would be air pocket. I would check out this video.

Once you are sure you have that done if it does not fix it there are several other possible causes:

Cabin Air Filter, if you have one, most older cars do not.

          Broken or stuck Blend Actuator/Door

          Broken or Stuck Recirculate Actuator/Door

Clogged Recirc filters if you have separate ones rare in automotive world.

There are other possibilities but, normally the ones above are your major ones. To test the actuators you can look up clicking actuator or hvac door on youtube plenty of videos. If it is constantly clicking it is bad. If it clicks once and only once it could be a bad tooth or just the door closing.

Did it get warm enough that the cooling fans came on?

A certain amount of the cooling systems ability to hold heat is due to the fact it is under pressure. If it’s open it probably won’t build up enough internal pressure to blow out any stubborn air pockets. Especially when you replace something like a heater core it can be difficult to get the last bit out. Depending on the setup you might be able to switch the hoses around.

How are the temperatures of the heater hoses relative to each other?
