My name is Mike, and I’m new to the ETCG forums. I’m not a car expert by any means, but I’m more knowledgable and experienced in computers and electronics. Though I am interested in learning more about basic auto repair. I look forward in participating in discussion and trying to learn as much as I can.

Welcome to the forums. ETCG Fourms are the best place to get advice from people who ACTUALLY Know what they are talking about. I, Like you, know more about computes and electronics than I do about cars. I get lots of advice here so when i need to do my next major car repair i can attempt to do it myself if i can. Basic car repair is not at all difficult assuming you have the right tools for the job. I would invest in a good quality socket set if nothing else Electric Impact or drill will help you out quite a bit. I, unfortunately do not have the funds to get any air or electric tools. If you are in a simular situation a socket set is pretty much all you need for basic repairs.

Thanks for the warm welcomes. Matt, that definitely is just like me. Thanks for the recommendation on getting a socket set. I had actually ended up purchasing a Craftsman 58 piece (metric/engish) set a few months ago so It’s good to know that I probably made a good choice..

I’m not going to be doing anything professionally, so that would work best for me rather than spending a bunch of money in air or electric powered tools.

Before this account gets banned by ToyotaKarl I thought i would add something to this. I mentioned the socket set be also failed to mention other neccessities such as ramps to drive up on and/or jack stands. I do not have jack stands myself i have not had a need for them yet. I do have ramps however. I also do not not have a jack but the factory scissor jack that comes with vehicles has worked just fine for me when the need to jack up the car rises.
