Hi I’ve just had my Vauxhall zafira 1.6 16v petrol full hydraulic clutch kit installed by qualified mechanic cost me £480 and first thing I noticed was the clutch pedal was very soft and easy to push down taking in mind I’ve just been driving car for past year with badly worn clutch so I wouldn’t no if its OK or not all gears seem to work no crunching or grinding but clutch seems to slip more now than before rpm seem way hi for my likeing they said they bleed hydraulics and said it takes 500 miles for clutch to bed in I’ve covered 350 and taking my time as I’m a very good driver just quest could it be the timing belt slipping would it be same feeling as clutch slipping thanks mathew very enjoyable to watch your vids I’ve learnt so much in last year thanks

A new clutch should not slip at all. If you press the accelerator and the engine speed increases, but the vehicle speed doesn’t increase, your clutch is slipping. A slipped timing belt would not cause a similar condition. If your timing belt slipped you would loose valve timing and the engine wouldn’t run.

Now I don’t know about hydraulic clutches and how it feels to operate one since my car is a cable type; but your clutch should not slip at all. If you notice your RPM increasing as you step on the gas and you can’t feel the car accelerate you need to have your clutch checked. One way to test to see if your clutch is slipping is to go into a decently vacant parking lot. set your parking break, pop it into really any gear and release the clutch. If your car dies (stalls out)instantly I say see if your clutch can be adjusted. If it was your timing belt (has teeth on it) slipping somehow you would notice it by your engine suddenly dieing while your going down the road. Most cars of modern day have what’s called an interference engine where the valves and the pistion come in close proximity to the other during the cycle process. I think it has more to do with your exhaust valves then your intake ones.

I took car back to garage today and they said cars not slipping but I think it is I only had clutch kit fitted and not new flywheel so could be that its slipping on the damaged or burnt flywheel I do see an in provment in speed only on flat roads if I drive up a hill first and second is OK but when I change to third it starts to die then build up speed I’ve changed the spark plugs from champion to NGK and do see an improvement as she wouldt go over 60mph now she do 100mph with ease could it be the fuel injectors need cleaning
