Subaru Legacy 2000 Rear Right Brake Pads and Caliper Servicing.
There are pictures of each of the steps below; See album at http://imgur.com/a/qIoIo

      1) Swing up brake caliper and depress
Remove tire. Remove bottom bolt from brake caliper (not caliper bracket). Place C-Clamp on piston and press it into its cylinder.

      2) Keep brake caliper swung up by using C-Clamp against sway bar.

      3) Use screw driver to push out rusted brake pads.

      4) Use wire brush to clean brake sliders, and general rust.

      5) Clean brakepad slides.
Remove slides with flathead screwdriver. Using pliers hold the slides down and scrub with wire brush.

      6) Old pads vs new pads.
These old brake pads weren’t worn very much and still have quite a bit of life. But since I just replaced seized calipers on the other side (and brake pads), I feel the need replace at least the pads in pairs.

      7) Install cleaned slides.

      8) Use small amount Sil-Glyde on brake pads and pad slide contact areas (Not the rotors!).

      9) More on Caliper Pins
After inspection of brake caliper slide pin operation (Like molasis) , I fealt they needed needed cleaning and re-application of sil-glide. The booties look fine, and there is no indication of rust.

      10) Cleaning Caliper Pin Booties
It appears last mechanic used grease to lube slide pins. I removed grease from the booties by wrapping a cloth around a screwdriver and twisting.

      11) Remove grease from receiver area of caliper slide pins.
I used a nail and used the head of it to scoop what grease I could out. I then wrapped the nail with shirt and placed into hole until shirt came out of hole clean. For further removal of grease I liberally applied syl-glide into hole, and placed slide pin into hole, which causes a mixture of grease and syl-gilde to squeeze out. I did this for both top and bottom slide pins.

      12) Place caliper back into position and insert the top and bottom bolts.
Fastening them down to “About Here” with a medium-strong arm.

      13) Clean up some surface rust with wire brush.
Remember, this car has over 200k miles on it. I’m trying to safely keep it alive. There is sure a bit of rust, but the rotors are not warped.
