New brake problems

Ok, I just changed out all four rotors and brake pads. The back seem fine. The front brakes seem to have an issue. I took my 2005 Trailblazer around the neighborhood to test the brakes. Felt like the Trailblazer was slowing down too fast. Half way home I could smell the brakes. I went home immediately. When I got home the front brakes were hot and smoking slightly. I did not put the lube on the side of the pads and they were pretty tight when I put them in. Could they be sticking? Not sure what to make if it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Did you lube the slide pins with silicone paste? Could be the calipers are hanging due to no lube on the slide pins. Also, if you did not lube the sliding surfaces and also didn’t change the abutment hardware, the pads could be sticking.

I would take it apart again and redo it with proper lubrication procedures.

I did use all new clips and hardware. I just did not use any lube. The pads were tough getting in place. I will take it apart again tomorrow and try some lube. Thank you for your help.

When installing new pads, they should easily slide within their position in the caliper bracket. Over time rust build up on the bracket and needs to be removed, or the ears on the pads have to be ground down for the pads to fit properly and be freely moving. Usually a wire brush is enough, but sometimes a wire wheel or other grinding type action is required to remove it. Even from the factory the tolerances are fairly tight so it deosn’t take much rust at all to cease the pad in place or limit it’s ability to back off of the rotor.

Ok, I took the front apart again and brushed off all remaining rust. Put the clips back in and lubed them up. The pads now move freely but do not rattle around. Still the front brakes grab and do not seem to release. Could I have a bad caliper?

Did you inspect the slide pins?
                Are they moving freely ?

Yes,I checked those as well everything is moving freely. I replaced the the slide pin rubber covers as well when I did the brakes the first time and used lube on them. I think i put enough on. Should they stick out when properly lubed up?

Could be a bad caliper or collapsed line if its only happening on the one wheel.

I did not bleed the brakes. I did not have anybody that could help. This couldn’t cause this could it?

It won’t normally cause sticky brakes. But will cause uneven braking.

Well the first time I took it out both front brakes started smoking and got really hot. How would I check for a collapsed line?
