      1998 Plymouth Neon Highline Coup
      2.0L DOHC MTX 129,000 miles

I am missing what to me looks like a mini shock that mounts with a bolt that goes through 2 holes in a bracket that is welded in the middle of the cross member where the front stabilizer bar mounts. It has a shaft like a shock shaft has that goes up to a bracket mounted to the transmission with a single 1 – 2 inch hole where it mounts with a couple bushings above and below the hole with a washer and nut on top. Without this part the engine, transmission and drive axles have no stability with the engine running.

What is the name of this part? I need to get one. Should the car be driven without it or should I wait until I install a new one. Should I find a new one or just get a used one? Does anyone have one sitting in a “junk”
box looking to rid themself of it?

      Thanks for the help

Sounds like it could be a damper of some sort. Any way you could post a picture?

Not ’til the weekend possibly she’s driving the 96 Neon and there’s no vehicle here during daylight hours. If I could find a pic on line I’d probably find the name of the part so I could order a new one.

I need the same part 🙁 I belive it’s called an “engine torque damper.”

What is the name of this part?

I believe the technical term for parts like these is “thing-a-ma-bob.” Other terms such as “doo-hickie” and “the one thingy” are also interchangeable but ultimately refer to the same part.

That may very well be the name but it’s not the same as the one I need. It’s for a second generation and I have the first generation.

I couldn’t find it at any of the local stores. Napa, autozone and Advanced Auto all said I was screwed. I have a 1996 Dodge Neon.

Just posted the picture to know if it was the same general part. This one is way cheaper and they say it’ll fit my car. Maybe it’ll help you locte the correct part for yours as well.

Yeah, basically a mini shock. But it’s a “damper” so they can charge $50.

I’m going to try the dealership tomorrow after I get payed. If it’s in the same ballpark price and OEM.
If they have it I’ll post a price and what hardware is included.

$66 for the damper and the grommets after 8% sales tax at the dealership.
Thank you for the offer johnbkobb. But would rather buy local in case there are compatibility issues or the part fails prematurely.

                            damper #4668171 $53.25
                            insulator #4668167 $7.70

Still don’t see a green traffic signal to change my icon to as an option though

I don’t know if we’ll be able to work out the traffic light thing like we used to have unfortunately but thank you for keeping us up to date and for the great pic.
