I have installed new brake shoes, springs , and drums on my 2009 hyundai accent and been having ann issue with the drivers side dragging and heating up a lot, causing a loud noise intermittently…I have checked everything over a million times that it was all assembled correctly, lubed the contact points, and adjusted it. However, when you rotate the drum, you get part of the rotation with no drag and part with drag. Is this normal or doe s it mean the drum is out of round…i had switched the drum and tire with the side that was fine and still have it heating up. i had also replaced the wheel cylinder and everything seems to be operating as it should. any ideas?

Check that the shoes are seated correct. If you switched drums with the side that
works and still have the problem something with the shoes or install. check that
you put the adjuster in the right way maybe its reversed.

how do you check that the shoes are seated correctly? what issues could there be with the new shoes that would cause this…could they be out of round…I spent a lot of time and money so far and would hate to try replacing the wrong part…not sure if the drum or shoes are bad…the adjuster is installed in the correct direction..

Where did you buy the drums? I worked for autozone for quite a while and I had a few cases wear a drums or rotors were not machined to the correct tolerance/spec. I would double check everything else as well, its very easy to do drums the wrong way.
Also, make sure you spray down the new drums with brakleen, as they do tend to come with residual oil from the machining process, which if not addressed can affect braking performance.

Bought the drums and shoes at rockauto.com……however, i re-examined everything again thes morning and found the middle contact area of the leading shoe had an indentation from wear….so I sanded it down and re-lubed all contact points and then adjusted them..i’m thinking that the shoe was catching on the groove while the drum is in motion and making it rub till it got hot…i’ll drive it around all week and pray that I fixed it
