I like the theory of a plenum gasket, but I would do a compression test first before spending money and effort. You could have BOTH a bad engine and an intake gasket problem, and if you don’t diagnose all that is there you may be wasting time and money._x000D_

i should also add it does includ dodge dakotas and durangos. not just the trucks. altho it seems a little less common on the smaller vehicles. maybe weight is a factor since they are lighter vehicles that don’t have to work as hard to get down the road???

I would suspect at this point there is an engine performance problem that is the root cause of the catalytic converter failure.

have you checked for vacuum leaks? if not that would be first on the list. has the engine been using more then it should of oil? was the old CAT very oily?_x000D_

a common problem with 2nd gen dodge rams with either of the 2 V8 engines is the lower intake plenum pan gasket falling apart. this will cause a vacuum leak, misfires, pinging under load and spark knock, overheating catalytic converters and bad mpgs (very
