          I have been using
          Autel MaxiScan MS300

Dirt cheap ~$20 and reads code from all my cars. The review said that it has some problem reading newer cars, but never had an issue.

Theres also a few other threads around here with people asking for input on scan tools if you wanted to search for them.

I would buy a bi-directional scan tool if its within your budget. Im a fan of the Snap On Verus. I also enjoy using the Tech 2 scanner and the Genesis.

If the above are not in your budget, a scan tool that can show live PID would be a nice acquisition to aid in diagnostics.

The Snap On MT2500 aka the ‘Brick’ would be a nice starter scan tool too, although there is no longer any updates available for it.

              This is also a decent OBD 2 scan tool – http://www.amazon.com/Actron-CP9190-Aut … 336&sr=8-1

It will cover Domestic OBD1 that you may come across. The same goes for the MT2500 but you would need to buy the additional adapters.

The one your looking into looks good but as stated you might want to consider more features (ABS/SRS) in the future but honestly if you get to that point you could probably sell your old one or trade it in on something newer. I think the one your looking at will work just fine, heck it’s better than the Actron that I have.

Hahaha good point Eric, Thank you. I went ahead and ordered the model above it for a extra $20 bucks it has a Backlit Screen which is good for me I do a lot of work at night. It also has Live-Data and comes with a nice case so it doesn’t get damaged. Thanks for your replies everyone!

I’ve got the one Dreamer linked to, which I guess isn’t that different than what you ordered. I’ve had it for years and it’s held up fine. Like Eric said, I eventually had to get something that allowed me to communicate with other modules like SRS/ABS or do manufacturer specific stuff, so i had to spend money again. Then the problem becomes that the tools may not ‘talk’ to all modules on all makes – you may have to spend $ to enable the tool for each new make you want it to work on. In my case I needed it to work on a Suzuki and I was SOL, they don’t offer that package, nor would I have bought it just to work on this 1 car either.
