The oil shouldn’t smell like gas. Did you have a chance to get codes pulled? I wouldn’t worry about changing the egr until we are positive it is bad. I would wait on the oil change too until we figure out why you are getting gas in your oil. My first thought is a bad fuel pressure regulator. Try pulling the vacuum hose off of the regulator and see if there is gas in the hose. If there is then that could be the cause of the smoke and uneven engine operation.
December 13, 2012 at 8:11 am #484101So the only thing you did was clean the egr passages right? Did you use a tube brush to clean out the passages like it said in the TSB that I posted in your first thread?
December 13, 2012 at 8:18 am #484104Yeah all I did was clean one passage and a little bit in in the IM with a damp cloth
December 13, 2012 at 8:43 am #484108The white smoke doesn’t smell sweet like coolant, does it? I can’t think of any reason why your oil would smell like fuel, besides blow by and a bad pcv… And since you said your oil was kind of a milky brown, that worries me a little.
December 13, 2012 at 8:48 am #484110Correct me if I’m wrong, but that egr valve is vacuum actuated right? If so you can pretty easily check to see if it is good. You will need a hand vacuum pump. Many parts stores will rent you one.
-Pull the vacuum line off of the egr valve and plug the vacuum hose (make sure you plug the hose).
-Connect that vacuum pump to the vacuum port on the egr
-With the engine running start pumping the hand pump.
-You should see the rpms start to drop. If the rpms don’t drop then your egr is bad.December 13, 2012 at 8:57 am #484114You can also take the vacuum line off of the solenoid that modulates the vacuum going to the egr, plug the outlet on the solenoid, and suck on the line going to the egr. Like thisisbuod mentioned, the idle should drop, or the car will die. Both indications that the egr is good. Also check if the rubber diaphragm in the egr moves freely and doesn’t stick.
December 13, 2012 at 3:49 pm #484151No there is no vacuum lines On egr valve just a plug
December 13, 2012 at 3:52 pm #484153Well what I did was let the car idle then pulled the plug off the egr valve it stumbled for a sec or two but the car stayed running

Lol, you’re right. I was thinking of the other type.It sounds like the EGR is working since you said the car stumbled. You can also check to see if the diaphragm is moving up and down (with a mirror) like it should when you hold the throttle partially opened.
December 14, 2012 at 7:04 pm #484424ok guys i put in a new egr valve and thats not the peoblem ,,, i installed it let the car warm up the moment i put in antifreez it started going crazy idle drop and a lot of white cloudy smoke every where and the car temp gauge went from warm to cool asap
December 14, 2012 at 9:35 pm #484493there is a legit and fairly easy way to test everything on the car. You don’t want to start throwing parts at it or you could run out of funds before replacing the offending part. I understand you can’t necessarily wait on us to respond because you need the vehicle running.
Was there no antifreeze in the car when you started it? Cause this is the first time I have read anything about antifreeze.December 14, 2012 at 10:42 pm #484503yeah there was antifreez i was just topping it off.
December 14, 2012 at 10:48 pm #484507well i should say that when i thought it was fine after installing the egr valve i started the car and it got to temp then i realized i had no heat that was the reason behind topping off antifreeze but like i was saying earlyer as soon as i started to pour it in that’s when all the smoke started coming from the rear of the car and the down pipe area , so i quickly went to shut car off and noticed the temp gauge went to cold asap .. thanks for responses
December 14, 2012 at 10:58 pm #484517Do a compression test. Sounds like a head gasket or cracked head/block.
December 14, 2012 at 11:03 pm #484524wow ,,no symptoms like this before i did the cleaning tho now that i cleaned now a lot of problems
