Need help decipering an OBD1 code on a 1994 Toyota

I have a 1994 Toyota Corolla with a 1.8L engine and automatic transmission. Until recently it has run very well, but the check engine light popped up a couple of weeks ago displaying code 12, which I’m having difficulty finding the precise meaning of. The car still runs well, and I continue to drive it, but I don’t want to cause any problems by driving it or find myself stranded on the road. All help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

A 12 code is the error for the ecm not receiving the engine rpms….

Thanks, Karl, but I really don’t understand the implications of the code. Does it suggest the the ECM is bad, that there might be a problem with wiring or connectors? What? Where do I begin?

check the connections to the distributor and the coils.

I am doubtful it is the ECU… Check the wiring connections going to the distributor. Many times, the problem is within the distributor….
