Ok my MDX needs a new steering rack. The Haynes manual says I need an engine hoist or something similar to do this project. A Honda master mechanic I met at Autozone tells me this is true and that the subframe is complicated as you have to do something called “dropping the cradle” to access the rack. My mechanic wants 1900 bucks to do the job. Is this a job a person with minimal to moderate experience can do? I don’t now and will not in the near future have the kind of cash to have this done. The engine is in great shape. the transmission gets noisy in overdrive and I know the problems that have been associated with this year model. The car has 147,000 miles on it. Im used to getting much more mileage out of Honda products. Do I cut my losses and sell this thing? Im not sure what I could get for it with these problems. Any advice would help. Has anyone changed a rack on this particular model?
Thanks,
Michael O
