i was coming back from an interview and right when i was coming up the hill i was close to home i heard a snap like noise and a rubbing noise so i got home jacked it up and took the tire off and saw that the brake drum was just hanging there and looked and one of the control arm snapped where the bolt is the only way i can describe it is the arm that runs the length of the car that’s the arm that snapped now is this a major job or can i do this with basic tools

If nothing else got broken,You should be able to use hand tools.
Try to get some pictures so we can have a look. 🙂Yea without seeing this for ourselves it’s hard to say what you’re up against. If you could post some pics that would be helpful. For now, perhaps this video can help.

It depends on exactly what happened. If you’re lucky it broke where the joint is and you just unscrew both halves and put in a new one.
If the fastening bolt broke or the mounting flange rusted out then it can be a much bigger challenge to get the bolt remains out or to repair the rusted out mount.
Also in your saltier states sometimes the bolts can be difficult to impossible to remove and it takes a lot of heat and impact wrenches and sometimes a drill or torch to get them out. Wish you the best.
