hey and thanks in advance I bought a 08 TL 3.2 with a blown engine the guy had a coolant leak and drove it for over 30 mins after it was already overheating he said by the time he got home it was sounding like a diesel so knowing its an aluminum block and head I don’t want to take a chance on the sleeves being cracked . Well I’ve been searching for a engine and I see the 07-08 for about 1200 my question is does the 04-06 fit I’ve been searching and I think it does but I need a definitive answer cause the 04-06 engines are so much cheaper like I can find one for like 300 I know harness may b different but does it fit I don’t mind moving intake or harness or ect over to the other engine I just wanna know if it actually bolts in to the tranny and frame also if anyone has done it b4 can u please let me know wat has to b changed over if anything is to b

So the car is only 7 or 8 years old and someone already abused it to the point of the engine blowing. What else is wrong with it?
Don’t answer that, just think about it.

Anyways – you might have to call a dealer to find out for sure. I looked up some stuff but get conflicting results. For example –
According to rockauto’s website, a lot of the parts for the engine fit 04 to 08 but that doesn’t mean the engine bolts to the trans correctly.
        It may or may not.

Also, you should be a little concerned about buying an engine for $300. What if this one you saw is in as bad if not worse shape?
Swapping out an engine is a huge job.

To be real honest, if you are wanting to get this TL running good, just spend the money for a newer engine that you KNOW works and will fit.

Certain parts on a car you can get away with throwing in “just any ol parts you find” but for very hard working parts that are not practical to test beforehand, you are better off just taking the hit for something new.

If you insist on picking up the $300 one, make sure you can rotate the engine with a ratchet and socket to feel if it at least turns over. Also if you can get away with it, remove the valve covers and inspect some of the valve train parts. Still no guarantee but if you do those to things and notice something awful, better to know ahead of time.

Well it overheated cause the heater valve had a leak they did not notice and continued to drive
The engine that I have available to buy is in a running car it’s a buddy of mine it just got tboned and he collected the insurance money
I also searched rock auto like u did that’s y I think that it might work the actual cylinder heads are the same 04-08 so is the headgasget and timing kit also the motor mounts r the same I just need a definite answer on this I don’t wanna start the step then b stuck

My go to for interchanges is car-part.com – it’s an online database of full-service auto dismantlers. They use Hollander interchange, which is the bible for such things.

Interchange shows this engine to be a 2007-2008 interchange as an assembly. You *may* be able to get an older engine to work, but will likely have to strip it down to the long block, change manifolds, brackets, timing covers and sensors from the ’08 engine.

Save yourself the aggravation and get the correct one. If you insist on going down the older engine road, you’d be best to find a good Acura-specific forum,

The last time I was around a project like this, it was discovered that a couple of bosses on the engine had been broken by the impact. So, while the engine was good you couldn’t mount an a/c compressor or a power steering pump on it. This wasn’t discovered until well into the project. So, just saying, depending on where it was hit, having a wrecked car doesn’t necessarily mean it will yield a usable engine.
