December 28, 2014 at 5:46 am #642065Modern automatic transmissions have an input and an output speed sensor. The rotational speed should change a certain amount in second gear. If this ratio isn’t right you get the code.
Automatic transmissions are full of clutches, clutches applied by hydraulic pressure. Some gears require more than one clutch to be applied. There could be a problem with a clutch or with the valve supplying oil pressure to it.

December 28, 2014 at 6:24 am #642097Since automatic transmissions are hydraulic, the first thing to do is make sure the fluid level in the transmission is correct. Also, see that it is red not orange/brown and doesn’t have a burnt smell.
I have heard of cases where the filter would plug. Usually this occurs at high mileage and if it does occur it indicates much clutch material either from the transmission itself or from the torque convertor has worn off and is circulating in the fluid. A transmission in this condition is probably near failure.

December 28, 2014 at 8:28 am #642187If you took it to Jiffy Lube, then they used a fluid flush machine. I don’t know the make of your car, but I can tell you this:

“The use of an external transmission fluid exchange or flush machines is NOT recommended for manual or automatic transmissions”The other problem with Jiffy Lube is that they use generic, universal fluids… if you’ve got a Honda, then that easily could be the problem. Hondas (as well as some other makes and models) do -not- get on well with anything other than the manufacturer recommended fluid.
Long story short… either drain the trans yourself two or three times to get the universal junk out, or take it to the dealership where they’ll use the correct stuff.

December 28, 2014 at 9:46 am #642217This is why Jiffy Lube is every car owners worst enemy. I hate to bash the place, but they have some shady practices and disregard official manufacturer bulletins as seen here among other things. I don’t know where you live, but I would go to Jiffy lube and let them know they are covering the cost of the repair if anything is wrong. If they don’t I’d threaten a lawsuit. They are known to take advantage of the customer. Anyways I wish you good luck with any route you chose, I’ve rebuilt multiple transmissions and I can tell you this, flushing is BAD in most cases when done with a exchange machine. You can essentially cause transmission failure just by performing one, it is sort of like opening pandoras box.
EDIT: I forgot to mention, tranny flush machines are such a liability, we threw all ours in the shed and they’ve been collecting dust ever since.

If you do it yourself and something is already damaged, Jiffy Lube may tell you to go pound sand.December 28, 2014 at 10:03 am #642221Let’s look at the facts here, you took it to get serviced and it was fine before the service. After leaving there is a problem…it’s obvious Jiffy Lube damaged or clogged something.

Like I’ve said and as my fellow forum member addressed in the posts above, Jiffy Lube SHOULD NOT have flushed it.
