Why did i have to do this simply to fix a vacuum leak caused by about 6 inches of rotted PLASTIC vacuum line and why couldn’t they spend the extra .5 cents to use rubber near the battery so this doesn’t happen.

I had to laugh. Your question reminded me of what they told us in Army Missile School: “No why questions allowed,”

Seriously though, I have been wrenching on cars on and off for over fifty years and I can’t remember a car maker that didn’t have pinch penny issues such as your example at one point or another.. My favorite was a Honda in the early eighties with a heater valve that wouldn’t shut off. I pried it apart and the plunger was plastic that had melted from the hot coolant flowing through it. Go figure.

No brand is immune to this.

Yea it caused the HVAC to default to defrost and the EGR system stopped working and threw a CEL with a P0401 code. Autozone tried to sell me a new EGR valve, to troubleshoot it I just hooked a piece of vacuum hose to the EGR valve with the engine running and sucked on it to open the valve and the engine stalled out which told me the valve was fine. Then I found the 5 bad vac lines behind the battery. Then spent a day and a half dissembling my truck to replace the krusty vac lines. This is why I dislike fords.
