Well hello guys…
I’ll try to shorten this as much as possible, but, I once was driving with my aunt, and she saw me put the car in N when stopped, then trew the shift stick to L to start on a slow traffic. She though that I was wearing that transmission, but someone else told me about putting the car in N will help prevent overheat, as the transmission fluid will flow more freely trough the torque converter (I guess he owned a mercedes and heard about the overheat problems on some of their transmissions) And I even heard Eric on the “wintering your car” video about going down to L when stuck in snow is going to put lessd stress on it and all that. So, I came up with this idea of asking you about the myths you’ve heard about wear. So there’s mine.

I almost forget, I recently heard about a man who just don’t use the clutch pedal to disengage gears on a manual (ovbiously, he does when engaging) and he says that he didn’t get into any abnormal wear because of that…

So, would be cool to have a ETCG1 video about myths on wear. yeah… what do you think?

this one needs to be addressed . I have to explain this one weekly

if you have a vibration you need an alignment (this of course is not correct)
I would add that most of my customers are nervous when I say that they can go longer than 3 thousand. I tell them that is why cars have oil life monitoring systems when the car tells you to change it well then change it.
They won’t like VWs with longlife servicing then! Up to 20K miles between changes.

Wasn’t there a Cadillac that was supposed to be maintenance free for the first 100K miles, even the oil?

I change my oil when it smells burned and choked with blow by, which generally happens by 4-5K miles.

I know that Eric already did his hangout, but come on guys, let’s this topic be interesting. there was a lot of things that Eric wasn’t able to cover in half an hour, so I will really appreciate if experienced people could answer not just mine, but everyone else’s doubts. For example, I didn’t belive that egg thing until I heard from Eric himself that it worked sometime ago. I want to know if you did encounter these kinda “cheap fixes” useful, or if some sentences are really true. I’m really curious about that.

I don’t think this subject was about useful fixes, it was about myths. Being older I have heard of all of the myths that Eric discussed on his show, there was no BS at all. As far as trying them myself I have not but have tried another one not mentioned.

Years ago while driving my 1956 Chevy in a secluded area my rad started to leak. I had nothing to repair it with in the car cept a bag of hot dog buns. I moistened and squeezed a bun into a ball and mashed it into the leaking rad core. When the heat dried that bun it sealed the hole. It was like concrete. While not being a myth, in those days people had no money and little to work with sometimes so we had to do whatever was necessary to get us through. A little reasoning and ingenuity helped too.

Now, as far as being useful today, I doubt it. You can’t get close enough to the rad without moving components on cars today not to mention the pressure cooling systems are under today. In those days some cooling systems were not pressurized at all.
