Last thing I worked on was a “tune up.” 1994 Taurus GL, Engine Code U. Followed the schedule in the Service Manual:
- Changed oil & filter – Valvoline 5W-30 Max Life oil with a Motorcraft oil filter
- Replaced the spark plugs – new set of 6 NGK G-Power plugs.
- Replaced spark plug wires – found a Motorcraft set online (cheap!)
- Inspected drive belt – no cracks
- Replaced Air Cleaner Filter
- Replaced PCV Valve
- Checked engine coolant – coolant is new with the new radiator I installed in June.
- Checked hoses – all are new with new clamps from the fall when I replaced the heater core & thermostat.
- Cleaned Battery and tested per Eric video
- Didn’t rotate tires as they are new with in the last month or so.
Was able to get parts for the “tune up” cheap- used some online discounts (30%) and applied a rebate credit from buying tires.
Parts & Fluids – $57.88
Plug Wires (delivered) – 26.00
TOTAL COST OF TUNE UP – $83.88I can only imagine the cost at a shop for this? I am guessing 100 worth of parts and 200 for labor at least – so probably $300 all told!
Thanks Eric and Thank you forum contributors! Much appreciated!
