      Hi guys
Earlier i had a problem with my car(civic Es5 Vtec 2004). car used to stall when i start it in the morning for the first time of the day or after keeping engine off for about 30-40 mins ). and my mechanic suspected its the gasket ( bcos I had some random overheating problems also ), and he was spot on .he changed the gasket and all fine now. but i fell there’s a low idle issue. rpm is always around 800. and it densest change with the AC  any idea why? is it some thing to do with Idle air control valve ? or engine vales ??

      Thanks
      KP

It sounds like it is working the way it should except you should see higher rpm on cold start.

It depends on the A/C high side pressure and how much load the compressor puts on the engine.

The car I drive is a 2003 Mitsubishi and if you look on the backside of the A/C compressor there is a blue wire connected to the compressor. This blue wire tells the ECU that the compressor is on and the ECU opens the stepper motor in the intake to let in more air. The result is that the idle does not change. I think this is the way most cars work.

Does the AC actually work? Does the compressor kick in when you turn it on?

You mentioned an intermittent overheat issue. This could be the root of the problem. If you have air in your cooling system your coolant temp sensor will not read properly. When this happens, it can cause issues with the idle circuit. I would recommend you check for air in your cooling system and then recheck for the problem. Also, don’t assume it’s a head gasket issue, it’s not common for that engine to have head gasket issues and you can test for them before you condemn them. More information on bleeding your cooling system and checking for a head gasket issue can be found in this article.
