Well last week, on Thursday, not this past Thursday, my NEW truck that the dairy got me a month or two ago, just broke down as I was just accelerating to fly down I-95 back to the dairy because I had just finished the route. Now I had just gotten the truck back two days ago because as I was rounding a corner, the injector pump literally exploded. I was able to coast to the side of the road. Well anyway, it was in the shop at the dairy for about a week. Well, this time, as I was giving the truck throttle to get goin’ down 95′, The engine just started to bog down and lurch. No lights came on. I made it to the side of the road and it ran horrible then shut off. It ran perfect all day. No signs of anything. I went to crank it and it would start and shut off and vibrate violently as it shut off. It almost seemed like it was seizing up but the oil was at perfect level. Wasn’t running hot. Engine eventually just wouldn’t start until I would manually pump it with fuel. Afterwards, it would idle perfect for about a minute then shut off and vibrate violently. Checked fuzes, they were all good. The injector pump still pumped though. I know nothing about these engines. I’m used to no computers on my trucks. Does anyone have any ideas? What caused the pump fail to begin with? What’s causing the truck to not run? Thanks.

As to why the pump blew? what service life has it had? Pull any codes to see what the computer
sees. We know you need an injector pump to start with.

Well without pulling any codes it could be a injector problem Or it could be a safety cut out where the exhaust filter could be clogged. I’m not Certain on years but some of those have come in to my dealership where the front filter falls away and clogged the dpf.but it should have had some idiot light come on and go into derate mode.

Nah, no lights were on the whole two days I got it back. I just got a brand new injector pump put on the week prior. The mechanins at the dairy said the whole wiring was shot.

I don’t know what service it has had. I just got a brand new pump, the dairy was too stupid enough to NOT buy scanners for the Hino’s they just got and the Freightliners they got. But they have the Internationals. Now the truck is at a dealership somewhere and been sitting there for over a week now.

We don’t deliver to houses no more! Lol!

All the spare trucks are down at another dairy. So i’m stuck in a truck that is set for a non-CDL hauls under 26,001pds and i’m hauling roughly 37,000 to 40,000pds. Truck flies but the rear axle I can tell is taking a beating. Something’s now bent since when i’m fdriving, no matter what speed, all I hear and feel is a boom boom boom behind me. Then when i’m on the highway, the rear end wobbles and goes back and forth. Just started this a few days ago when I had this truck loaded fully. It’s marked as and International 4900 with a DT466. But I don’t think it’s a 4900. It’s got a DT466 but I think the axle’s are alot smaller. The box is midgit sized too compared my my old trucks. It must actually be a 4700 with a 4900 hood. They beefed up the frame with wood running on the inside of the chassis so I guess it can withstand the weight. Truck still twists like crazy and bends with turns.

For the rear end I would at the fluid in the diff to make sure its full.also Im pretty sure there is a tsb on some models on the front u bolts I would have them run ur vin to see if that has been done. As for the swaying in the back. Maybe the box u bolts lose or not torqued properly. Does it have a wood floor in the box?

No, it’s a refridgerated milk truck. it’s gotta be steel. There’s wood underneath the steel floor.

As an update, dairy took the truck from me. said they want it to a driver farther away so they don’t have to worry about him breaking down a few hours away. Well, now I’ve got a 1998 International 4900. Runs pretty good, brakes just replaced. But the front of truck bounces ALL THE TIME. And when I get on the highway, the front end shakes SO bad that I can’t see straight seriously. Tires aren’t worn down. It ssems to go with the road, like if the roads leans to the left, it will follow. same thing to the right. Steering column ins’t loose though.
