Ever since we bought an 06 ford f150 fx4 with a 5.4 v8 Triton engine; it’s always made a tapping/ticking sound when it idols. Its driving us crazy because we can hear it clearly inside the cab even with the windows up. It runs fine as far as I can tell but Im a little concerned about it. I was told maybe a valve adjustment would fix it but Id rather know before getting into it all. What do you guys think?

The valves on Triton engines are not adjustable. You have to replace worn parts to make em quiet. That said, the exhaust manifolds on those engines rot off and the bolts break and resulting exhaust leak can sound like a worn engine part.

Some fuel injectors are quite loud on those engines also.

These should help that is a common problem with the 4.6 5.4 engines
The usual suspect on the 5.4 is the the phasers, hydrolic tensioners and the plastic chain guides. I believe you will find your answer in the second link down on the second page. It explains the noise inside the cab. Ford tech by the way.
