I drive a 98 Honda Accord 4cyl EX and I just replace my serpentine belts. Usually there’s a belt tensioner pulley that you just pull it with serpentine belt tool but unfortunately I couldn’t find that belt tensioner in my car 🙁 . But I somehow took out two bolts of p/s pump and loosen up two bolts of alternator and finally took out belts and replace it with new ones and tighten up the bolts and start up my car and everything runs fine and I was just hoping for any belt not to come out and it didn’t so that was the good part. As I try to do a test drive and start up my car and put in reverse and go back and try turn my steering wheel and it’s not moving at all neither to the right or left. I try to put in drive and neutral and is still stuck and shut off my car and start it back again and there were no problems but except my steering wont move at all. So could anyone please tell me what’s going with my car because I’m totally confuse. If you guys want me to upload a video and show it to you I can do that as well and see how belts are moving perfectly except my steering.

Did you check the power steering fluid level?

Given that you just replaced the belts I’d say you either have the power steering belt mounted wrong or you don’t have the belt tensioned correctly. With a 98 Accord the power steering belt is separate from the alternator AC belt.

The only other thing I can think to ask is….Is it making any whining sounds???

I had a 2002 chvy imp that had no p/s….I did check after check on it….
System was full and no leaks.
I made up my mind to pull the pump -as soon as a dropped the belt and tryed to wiggel the pump the shaft with the pully came out!!!

              But the system didn leak-???

Im wondering if maybe something got broke (when you pulled the belt like that -That could have put the unit in a bind)

Great posts everyone. I would focus on the power steering belt and ensure proper tension is on the PS belt. Also ensure it is propoerly aligned on the PS pulley and the crankshaft pulley. If possible, start the car and view the belts in operation.

When replacing both belts, were the old and new belts compared against each other for proper size? Good luck and keep us posted.

Thank you so much onthe7thdayford and Big c much appreciated. I’m really sorry for not updating the status but here is the good news what I did was I replaced the Power steering pump assembly basically bought it one from Junkyard so that saved up some money and flush old power steering fluid from the pump reservor and added the new fluid and replaced the belts and make sure they are tight but not too tight. So that solve the problem! right there! I’m sure you guys might be confused that replacing belts cause my pump steering goes bad the reason why it happened because I opened my pump assembly and don’t ask me why I guess I was just curious to know what’s inside so there’s one rotor which contains small 10 metal pieces lined up around the rotor and when I opened up the pump assembly then accidently some metal pieces just got out and went somewhere in the engine. At that moment I didn’t really care I thought it just small something who cares nothing would happened then I later on my friend checked it out told me that sometimes a small part inside the machine could cause problems and try replacing ps pump and see if that helps so I did change the pump and now everything is fine. Thanks for the help guys I really appreciate. W;)
