Long story short honda found out I had a car with no air bags / seat belt retractors . But when i bought the car no air bag light was on and it did turn on when I would leave it in the ACC possion .
What should i do ? the dealer said it was around 4,000 in parts that are needed ! I bought the car for that much.

If you like the car I would try and fix. You should be able to get everything you need from either Ebay or local junk yards and it will be vastly cheaper than the dealer is wanting to charge for the new OEM parts.
If you’re not comfortable doing the install then any shop should be willing to do it for a reasonable price. If you do decide to do it yourself be VERY careful with the air bag install, you’ll want to have the battery disconnected for several hours before hand.
*edit: Are their any legal requirements to have the equipment where you’re located? (not sure if you’re in the USA or not) If there’s no legal issue, then I personally would just install the seat belts and forget the air bags, seat belts do 90% of the life saving in accidents. From what I’ve seen air bags are more likely to injure you in a crash than help you.

Exactly what I was thinking. This makes no sense. Are you telling me there is no airbag module or this is a defective car or what? I prefer cars without airbags for myself. Nicer steering wheels.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
July 3, 2016 at 2:52 am #861785Yeah, I definitely missed the train of thought that subscribes to the idea that bulky, awkward steering wheels armed with shaped charges pointing directly at your face would save lives.
July 3, 2016 at 6:02 am #861793I believe what the Dealership told the OP was that the airbag/’restraint system (SRS) was not operational and that the OP needed repair before it would work, not that all the airbags and seatbelt explosives were no longer in the vehicle. Kinda shady way to get the OP to fork over money for reopairs (scare tactics) and at $4000 I’d like to know what was malfunctioning.
If I’m incorrect, and you are in-fact missing these SRS components, ask them for an itemized list of what is needed and labor costs. Then post here.

July 3, 2016 at 4:31 pm #861827Perhaps we need more info to more clearly understand the problem. BTW if the vehicle was in a collision the SRS unit will require replacement. I’m also wondering if this was a salvage title vehicle. If it was, you may have a long road ahead to make it right.
Good luck and please keep us updated.
July 3, 2016 at 5:48 pm #861835It is possible to have a steering wheel appear normal and for there to be no air bag in it. It is a common scam for scummy people to remove the bags to sell them separately when they sell the car.
I had a used 99 Passat, I was T boned and spun around and slammed into a tree practically bending the car in half. It looked like an hourglass that had the top half leaning over. There was no steering wheel airbag only the ones on the side went off when the one in the steering wheel obviously should have. The belt kept me from being injured much worse.July 3, 2016 at 9:34 pm #861850If the air bags and seat belt emergency retractors are physically missing from the vehicle, somebody put this car back on the road after an accident that likely should have written it off.
If this is the case, I wouldn’t trust the vehicle at all and begin shopping for a new one.

That makes more sense, the OP hasn’t replied to anybody yet, but I too was kind of wondering how you wouldn’t notice no seat belt retractors being present. Missing airbags can be hidden but you’d notice the belts. If it really is just the SRS module or something along those lines then the OP can still save a crap load of money by buying a used unit from somewhere. Only problem might be if there’s any fancy programming that has to go on to get it working correctly. Personally I think Dealer’s scammy hold over proprietary software flashes/updates should be illegal, should be available to anyone who owns a car the software applies to.
July 4, 2016 at 9:17 am #861888I agree with Evil-i; it might be best to wash your hands of this car.
My feeling is that this car has been wiped out before in a wreck and should have been crushed. There’s always people repairing “builders” though.
What state are you in? Some states can be real strict about things like this and you may have some recourse through them.

I don’t know where you call home, but in Canada, nobody inspects your vehicle when you register or insure it. Simple face-to-face exchange of info across a desk or counter.
July 4, 2016 at 8:44 pm #861926Same for Oklahoma. You walk in with a signed, notarized title and they give you a new title. Nothing is inspected.
My point about inspections is that some states mandate that any used car sold must be in safe operating condition and if not the seller can be held responsible. I think in some states this is required even on sales from individuals; not just dealers. There are often time and mileage limits.

I’m in New Zealand , where cars must have an inspection sticker and be registered , failure to do so is a hefty fine for both .
