so I have 99 crv that stalls while driving on the road. it cranks but no start I have to wait a couple of mins for it to start up again. this happens when engine is running at normal temperature. I also pulled out to codes which were p0116 p0118 and end up replacing the ect sensor and thermostat. I also like to mentioned that the spark plugs wells were covered in oil which I replaced the gaskets for the spark plugs wells. can anyone shed some light on this issue.
      thanks

is this consistant? does it die at or around the same temp all the time? almost sounds like a crank sensor, which only kicks in when going to closed loop

yes it is yesterday night I took it for a spin and it stall on me and then I try to start up the engine but would only crank but no start, I have to wait awhile for the engine to start up again. I had a similar problem with a 00 jeep the difference is that the jeep wouldnt start at all.not even if waited it would just crank and yes it was a faulty crank sensor and problem solved… you think it could a faulty ignition within distributor.
            thanks

I’m more of a domestic vehicle guy, but if the distributor has a module, it could be that. They can act up when hot, they normally just give up though, but its something to consider

The crank sensor is a thought but without a signal from the crank sensor the engine wouldn’t run at all, closed loop or not.

Ran til it warmed, then died, had to cool off before it would start again. It was the crank sensor, was cracked, and ugly. Now a cam sensor is always read, its function is for ignition I believe. Has been a rough weekend. Lol. So for sure, check that crank sensor. That’s what I’m leaning at, and you have had that same problem with another vehicle doing the same. OK crank has to do with timing as well.

The crank sensor is used to trigger the ignition and injectors and the cam sensor determines when the injectors should fire. That’s a very basic description that applies to most cars.

Yup, that’s what I meant to say. Lol. But the crank can and will fail due to heat. Been there, done that. And it was when it went to closed loop. Alot of junk is not used or read until then. Its runs off of a base setting til warmed up

First I wanna thank you guys for your help I really appreciated your responses. Yesterday I brought over a tech to take a closer look at the crv and he said it was the ignition switch, where you insert the key. he stated that it was loose and it was causing the car to stall while driving, and hesitated to start. I honestly thought it didn’t make any sense. Can this be the issue or a faulty crank sensor.
                              Thanks
