My 2004 F150 4.6L is running rough

Some things that I have read and watched lead me to believe what is wrong is the VCT solenoids . If so how long can I drive my truck before it quits running?

Running rough at any speed, won’t pull a hill(bottom @ 65mph top of the hill 40 mph or 35mph @ bottom and 25 mph @ top), rough idling, has 151,000 miles on it.pickup just started doing this 2 days ago and only at highway speeds on Sunday 6-26 and Monday and Tuesday on local roads.

What would happen if I disconnected the wires going to the VCT solenoids and left them that way permanently?

If all you know is it is running rough, don’t go crazy trying to fix things till a code pops up. There are so many things possibly causing rough running; I found out on my 2003. Without codes, it could be anything. Till then, do some maintenance things to clear up non-code possibilities.

With that combination of rough running and low power under load, I’d start with a compression check and a power balance test.
