My 2004 Blazer won’t shift out of park sometimes

Ok so this happened about a week ago too, I wasn’t home and I went to leave and it was like I was trying to shift the car while the engine was off (or my foot was not on the brake pedal) first thing I remember was Eric’s brake light switch video I believe it was on an acura rl, and that’s the first thing I checked because it was essentially the same symptoms minus all the lights on the dash, no trouble codes and the brake lights work which leads me to believe that it’s not the brake light switch, also last week when this happened eventually it did end up shifting and all was good until today, what do you guys think? thanks

You may have a problem with your shift lock actuator.

+1 on the above post. You can sometimes here them when you turn the key to the ON position and step on the brake pedal. If you don’t hear it, I would still suggest checking the brake light switch as you suggest. It may have another output just for the shift interlock that is separate from the brake lights. Sorry It’s been a while but here’s an update, because it’s an intermittent problem I wasn’t really sure where to go at first but now I might, It did it to me again today when I got home and I opened up the center console, with the car still running I stepped on the brake and heard and saw nothing a little while later when it started shifting again I would step on the brake and I was able to hear a clicking, which leads me back to Eric’s above post that says if that’s the case then to go back to the brake light switch, should I get a new one and try it? Or is there a way to tell before I do that?

Alright so I’ve been kind of busy lately and haven’t been able to update you and lay this thread to rest so that’s what i’m doing now, I ended up just replacing the brake light switch as it was a 10 dollar part and I wasn’t losing a large amount of money if it wasn’t the problem but two and a half weeks later and the problem has not come back so I think it’s safe to say problem fixed, Thanks for the help guys
