mx6 overheat

I got a 96 mazda mx6 2.0L 5 speed, it just started over heating. I pulled codes and I had cylinder 3 and 4 misfire and the engine coolant temperature sensor. Could take make it read that it over heats? It still takes awhile for it to get to normal temp and my car blows only cold air. Any ideas?

Fist thing to do is make sure the coolant level is full and there is no air in the system.

Thanks. The coolants is like a milky bworm like it has been in the awhile. I dont remember what coolant was in it before.

Change it then. Does the engine run rough? The coolant sensor is probably bad. Also, I’d check the thermostat.

It was running rough. I think it was because 3 and 4 were misfiring. I hope that is just plugs and wires. What coolamt should I put in it? Do you have any idea where the bleeder screw is for the coolant? I dont have a book right now but I will in a few days.

like these guys have stated perform a coolant flush and get that coolant healthy again then check the basics plugs fuel delivery ect. and yes a fautly coolant temp sensor can give you a false reading but with the heater output blowing cold chances are that’s not the case. coolant level and coolant condition are probably the cause of your overheat.

Milky brown coolant could indicate a head gasket failure. If I were you, I would not fill the system with coolant yet. I would top it off with water, bleed the system of air, and then recheck for your problem. If it’s still there, check for a head gasket issue. This way you save on coolant if you indeed have a head gasket issue.

Here’s additional info that you may also find helpful. Including information on how to check for a head gasket failure.

I dont see a bleeder fir the coolant. I have the manyal and i dont see anything for it. I had a driend hook up the battery backwards and tried to start it. I replaced the ecu and the dustributor that had my ignition control module built in. When i try and start it it just rolls over and dont fire. I tryed to pop start it and it starts but i cant push on the gas to go and then it stops

First, you don’t need a bleeder on the cooling system. Those are there to make filling the system easier. Do everything else in this video the same.

Since your friend hooked up the battery backwards it could be a number of things. Try checking the fuses first. Outside of that, you might consider taking it somewhere to have it check out, especially if you’re not familiar with doing electrical work.

Thank you. I finally got it to start. The way my distributor was number and the way the book said to do it was 2 different things. Neither of them were right. I broke the housing to the thermostat. I ordered a new one. When i put the new gasket on it still leaked before i broke it. Is there a certain way it goes? Like the gasket then the theromostat then the housing?id take it to a shop but dont have the money for it.
