      Hello all my automotive friends,

Trying to help my brother 3-1/2 hours from me with his issue.

He has a 1998 dodge intrepid with 3.3 liter..

This problem is intermittent, times when he goes to start it it starts normal, then times it starts and stalls over and over fight to keep it running and he gets all coil codes p0351 p0352 p0353 p0354 p0355 p0356 coil open circuit codes..
then also at same time gets p0201 p0202 p0203 p0204 p0205 p0206 open injector circuits but some cars actually shut down injector circuits when you get the coil codes so those could be from that..

I told him to maybe check harmonic balancer and crank sensor area, but also thinking maybe shorted power feed to coils? Or pcm issues since that controls the ground signal side of the coils..

what have any of you experienced with that?

      Thanks a bunch
      Mike

If the ECU is shutting down the injector circuits, it won’t (or it shouldn’t) throw a code. If the ECU commands the circuit not to ‘function’. Then it’s not a fault.

I do not see this as a shorted power feed. I think you have either a bad ground, or something common to both circuits that is intermittent. It will take a vehicle wiring diagram, comparing both circuits, and seeing what is common to them both. Also ask, what was done recently for maintenance and repairs prior to this happening. Anything else that would offer direction on what could be at fault.

This sounds more like a job for a schematic, multimeter/test light, a lot of wire wiggling, and time.

          Yes
No doubt a diagram will be a must..
I think there might have been a ecu recall on those quite some time back

Two things come to mind on that car. The auto shut down relay feeds power to the coil pack and injectors as well as the O2 heaters.

Ignition switches were a known problem on those cars and might be worth checking.

funny thing he says the fuel pump relay clicks like crazy when it does it

More direction to follow. Weak relay, poor ground or power to the relay. Look for something common to all effected circuits. I would 100% have the ignition switch checked out as well.

The auto shutdown relay powers the fuel pump relay. Could be a bad connection somewhere but a bad ignition switch can cause that also.

Sounds like a connection issue as some have pointed out. I also concur that looking for something that’s common to both circuits would be the way to go. The ignition switch might be a good place to start but if there’s a common ground somewhere I think that would be worth looking into first.

Good luck and keep us posted.

                      update guys

My brother looked at the digital display, You can get codes on that also on the intrepid, it had P1684, its a manufacture code and basically stands for battery has been disconnected with in the last 50 starts, He has not disconnected the battery..
at that time he connected his scan tool again and the other codes were gone, Id say he found his problem, The computer has to be losing battery power somehow.. coming and going..
And that would explain all the coil codes and injector codes if you ask me..
The ignition switch should not make the ECM lose power right?

                      Thanks guys
                      Mike
