a while ago we got a infared thermometer and of course its really fun to play with! then to make it better I watched a eric the car guy video about how you can diagnose a catalytic converter by the temperature, and that it should be roughly 100 degrees hotter on the exhaust side than the intake side.
which is what I found with the catalytic converter on our colorado. but then I decided to see what the muffler did just for fun. the intake side of the muffler was roughly 180-200 degrees and the exhaust side was 330-380 degrees. does that sound normal?? I am not worried about the temperature itself at all I am just curious if the temperature difference is normal.
so I tested my k1500 today and it was pretty different the one cherry bomb glasspack was 235 degrees and the other was 260 degrees on the intake side and the exhaust side was 135 degrees and the other was 160 degrees. so it was pretty much 100 degree heat loss going throught the glass packs.
it seems to me that with out colorado the muffler must not be breathing really great if it is getting hotter going through the muffler. is that a safe assumption??
