plug wires, cap and rotor and you should put a set of plugs it it while your at it. you can recreate the problem with a spray bottle with water and look for the light show 🙂

December 4, 2012 at 4:44 am #482108It is most likely your distributor cap. If it has been awhile, go ahead and change the distributor cap and rotor. It would be a good idea to get dielectric grease and put it around the base of the new distributor cap before you install it. Probably be a good idea to pull the plug wires one by one and put a bit of the grease around the inside lip of the spark plug wire boots (at both ends of the wires.) Be sure to do the wire coming from the ignition coil. While doing this make sure you inspect the entire length of the spark plug wires. Look for any damage to the insulation (rubber outside of wire)or any stiff spots in the cable (like a rigid section that does not flex as easily as the rest of the cable.) If you question the integrity of the wires go ahead and change them out. If you do change the wires make sure you do them one at a time so you can be certain they are not getting mixed up. Remember each wire has a specific spark plug it is supposed to power and if they get mixed up your engine will not run correctly.
