Misfiring

Hello there! I’m new at the forum, being this my first post. English is not my main language, so excuse me if I don’t make myself very clear.
I have a 2003 Chrysler PT Cruiser, 4 cyl 2.4L non-turbo with 136,000ish miles. I drive it mostly in town, on short trips. Recently I’ve noticed some hesitation when the engine was cold, then it stopped at normal operating temperature, but now the hestation doesn’t stop. I checked the codes on the computer and detected a misfire in cylinder 3 (P0300 and P0303). So the question is: what are the logical steps for finding the source of this misfiring?

      Thanks guys! Greetings from Chile!

P0300 means multiple cylinder misfire. If the check engine light flashes, does it only happen at low rpm?
If it does I would start looking for vacuum leaks, .
If it is the same all the time, try to unplug the low voltage plugs on top of the coil one by one to see if the rpm changes, or engine slows down. If nothing slows down, then you found a dead cylinder. Maybe #3. Could be as simple as a spark plug or coil pack, but don’t change stuff unless you can prove bad. Swapping the parts onto a good cylinder and checking if the problem moves is one way to do this.

Good one. I’ll try swapping spark plugs and cables,an let you know about the results. The bad thing is that on this engine, I have to remove the intake in order to access the spark plugs and coil :(. Yeah, sucks. I give it a try. Thanks on the advice!

An online spark tester between the distributor and spark plug wire might also give you a test. For some reason I mistakenly thought you had coil on plug ignition.

Alright, update on this one. I swapped spark plugs and cables, and still had the same problem. So I started checking sensors and cleaning the intake, since it was a hesitation problem in the bottom. I got to the MAP sensor, got the electrical part claned with contact cleaner and the inner part with intake cleaner. And that did the trick, no misfiring, no hesitation whatsoever.

              Thanks on the advice though!
