You can’t say it’s 100% anything unless you diagnose it. No one should say it’s 100% this or that, period. Now that being said, you need to go through the diagnosing process.
1. Do you know 100% these are the cyl. that are missing? Are the plugs “fouled” from fuel because they’re missing or because of a leaking injector? Is it missing because of the plug? These are things you have to ask yourself, which is why I never say 100% anything, we must go on facts.
2. Do you have spark? From the coils? No? Do you have signal coming from the PCM to the coils or is it just a bad coil? If you move cyl. 1 coil too cyl. 2 does the misfire travel with it? Same for plugs, same for wires.
3. Do you have fuel? If you do is it the correct pressure? Does it bleed off immediately after the car is turned off? Is pressure low because of a pump? Clogged fuel filter?
4. Do you have injector pulse? If you do have pulse are the solenoids inside the injectors clicking open and close?
5. Are there any vacuum leaks?
6. Is there a loss of coolant? Sister Cyl. missing with coolant loss and white smoke. In some cases can mean a head issue.
7. Do you have compression? If not, leak down test. Where are we losing compression too? Is it because of a mechanical problem or is it the motor out of time?
These are the things we have to ask ourselves and find out, nothing can be assumed.
Too much shop think here. So, in your mind, limit yourself to a small box of basic tools. Now, tell the owner how to fix his or her vehicle.
