Misfire Code after tuneup?

Hello everyone, i have an issue that i been having for a bit.. i did a complete tuneup on my 1998 honda civic CX 1.6l Dist Cap, Rotor, Plugs, Wire. and i’m still getting a misfire code, i thought that maybe the wires or plugs were bad so i replace them with another ones and still the engine light on.. What else could cause this ?

how long has it been since you did the tune up? did you reset the check engine light afterwards?

its been a few weeks i would say 3 i rarely use the car because im always working everything still brand new installed on the car, i reset the light right after and turned back on after a couple mins telling me i have misfire from all cylinder, i dont feel the car misfiring tho which is the weird thing.. it drives normally.

it may be a faint misfire. my old truck did the same thing. maybe distributor is going out. over time, the shafts tend to get a little wobble and may cause a misfire.

i was thinking of replacing the coil inside the distributor and see what happens but no idea what else to replace ..

im not sure about the particular parts on that car but i would replace the cheapest things first and work your way up. them faint misfires can be really hard to find. how many miles are on it. it might be startin to get mechanicaly out of time. i would look into maybe replacing the timing belt

what brand plugs, wires and ignition parts are you using?
do you have an after market dizzy?

I bought the parts from Autozone so everything is Duralast Gold.. nothing is aftermarket all i have is headers for now… i was thinking that maybe is because its autozone crap not sure so im going to order online a MSD COIL WIRES PLUGS DISTRIBUTOR CAP KIT and see how that works

The plugs and wires use NGK The cap and rotor should be
Honda OE.

Hondas are picky about the ignition parts you use. You should only use NGK or Nippon Denso plugs. If the wires are OE then leave them alone as they last just about forever. If you do replace them NGK wires are less expensive than the OE wires. In short, your parts weren’t the best choice.

I’m not saying that’s what’s causing your misfire. Let’s stay away from replacing parts, especially with aftermarket parts. I’m talking about the coil here.

You might first do a power balance test to see if there is a cylinder(s) that are responsible for the problem. If you don’t find anything with that I would then recommend doing a valve adjustment. If that doesn’t get you anywhere I’d do a compression test or leak down test to see if it’s a mechanical issue.

And what kind of spark plugs should i go for ?… Copper, Platinum, Irridum, Laser ?..

NGK- whatever your owners manual calls for.

Thank you everyone, Replaced all plugs wires cap and rotor with the one you all told me.. NGK Wire Set..NGK Plugs.. OEM Cap and rotor and so far no engine lights.. i didnt know how picky honda civics are with this stuff.. geez..

The plug number should be listed on the underhood sticker. If memory serves it’s a zfr5f-11
